Our Dryhead Ranch Photo Retreat really is a Photographer’s Playground!
Since 2019 Kim Beer and I have been honored to host a Photography Retreat at the beautiful Dryhead Ranch each year in July. The guest business operates each year as cows move into and out of the Dryhead Ranch and have grown from 6 cows to 1000 cows and calves, bulls, and heifers. The horse program has produced money earners, competitive athletes, valuable brood mares and solid ranch horses. Tucked on the eastern slopes of the Pryor Mountains, deep in the heart of the Crow Indian Reservation, four generations have lived and worked on the Dryhead Ranch. Participants of our Retreat are privileged to experience the Dryhead Ranch legacy and enjoy the wonderful hospitality of Jennifer, Jessie and Jake, Kristen and Braden along with their families and staff.
Family and Staff at the Dryhead Ranch 2024
Our group has the wonderful pleasure to get a taste what living and working on a real cattle ranch is like. The ranch has a cavvy of around 90 head of horses that they gather and bring in each morning for their daily activities, in the afternoon they go back out to overnight pasture. It’s a working ranch so checking pairs, weaning, branding, moving cows to high mountain pastures and colt and horse training are on the list at any given time. First each day starts with some good cowboy coffee!
Never a shortage of moving horses, mare and foals, stallions and ranch horses all live on the land as it should be.
The opportunity to witness the raw authenticity of a working ranch is a unique opportunity.
Quite a few of our photographers are return guests to the Dryhead they love it so much!
We’re up early each morning to catch the best light!
Silhouettes are always a favorite and we have great locations for some epic shots!
Wranglers and kids are always a huge source of entertainment during the week, never a dull moment!
They make for some fabulous portrait shoots too!
If you seek an authentic ranch experience, look no further.
