Iceland Equine Photo Tour 2020

June 14-20, 2020 Iceland Equine Photo Tour

If you ever dreamed of photographing horses in Iceland, this is your chance. Spend five days shooting the beautiful Icelandic Horse with the iconic Icelandic landscape as your backdrop. We will stay at a farm in southern Iceland where we will have the opportunity to shoot horses at liberty, mares and foals, stallions, horses on the beach and at the waterfall, water crossings, portraits and more. You will have the unique opportunity to ride and experience the tolt or explore the surrounding area.

During free time there are two beautiful and famous waterfalls, Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss, only minutes away. The famous, black beaches of Vik are an 1.5 hour away from the farm where you can see basalt columns, caves and seabirds. Experience the local flavor in the Halldorskaffi Restaurant where you can dine on Arctic Char (a fresh, local fish) or the Skyr Cake. Skyr is Iceland Yogurt!

5 days to shoot at the farm with equine shoots scheduled . . . extra days to allow for inclement weather, meals included and one two hour horseback ride. Imagine looking out the window each morning to see Icelandic Horses playing on the hillside! There is now a luxury hotel at the farm for those that prefer a private room. However, these rooms fill quickly so if interested early reservations are recommended. For shared accommodations at the farm, there is a bunk room where you will have your own lower bunk and a shared bath. The chef at the farm is wonderful and can accommodate the vegetarian diet as well.  Jóhanna and Mummi, the farm owners, and our horse “wranglers” are fabulous to work with and eager to make your stay unforgettable!

The average weather for June is 50’s during the day and 40’s at night. Over the course of June, the length of the day is gradually increasing. The shortest day of the month is June 1 with 20:09 hours of daylight; the longest day is June 21 (the Summer Solstice) with 21:11 hours of daylight.

Testimonials for my Iceland Equine Tour:

I thoroughly enjoyed photographing Icelandic horses under the tutelage and energetic presence of Phyllis Burchett.  She arranged unique and compelling opportunities to photograph these incredible horses.  She worked with talented wranglers to maneuver the horses in wonderful landscapes, varied the opportunities every day, and made her self available to assure that each and every photographer was successful in capturing perfect images.  We photographed horses in lupine meadows, crossing waterfalls, rivers and canyons, each shoot more amazing than the last.   Marshaling photographers can sometimes be like herding cats, but Phyllis was the center of calm and confidence in every situation, working with a smile and a creative vision that virtually guaranteed a great working group of photographers.  This trip to Iceland was one of the best opportunities I have had to improve my equine photography in a setting that is unparalled in beauty.  Phyllis made the trip work for everyone, sharing her energy and ideas while working with varying levels of experience.  I highly recommend anyone interested in equine photography to turn to Phyllis for assistance and creative ideas. ~ K. I just returned from the most fantastic photo tour to Iceland with Phyllis Burchett Photography. Phyllis put together a great trip with many terrific photo opportunities to capture the beauty of Iceland and the Icelandic horses. We stayed at a wonderful farm where Phyllis has an excellent relationship with the owners. The opportunities to photograph these beautiful horses were endless. Phyllis worked extremely hard to make sure we were able to capture the essence of the horses and beauty of the country in our on-site shoots and that everyone’s needs and expectations for the tour were being met. Besides that we were able to wonder around the farm shooting at will. Phyllis is a very gifted photographer and was a patient and kind tour leader. The trip was very well thought out and organized, I would highly recommend her tours and workshops to everyone. ~ J. Mudge, Florida

Phyllis, thank you again for everything. Your care for what you do and your experience came through in all aspects of the photo tour: the lovely accommodations, the warmth of the wranglers and the entire team at Skalakot Farm, the beautiful horses and scenery, and the enjoyable atmosphere that allowed those of us on the trip to relax, laugh and gain new friendships all the while getting to photograph those beautiful horses. I’d travel with you again in a heartbeat, highly recommend your workshops/tours to others, and hope to have the opportunity to join you again. Your tour exceeded my expectations in so many ways. You did a terrific job, and I’m so glad I got to meet you!  ~  M. Kuo, California
